JPMA Launches Improved Industry Report

Trade associations leverage the power of collective membership to provide valuable services to the industry that would be difficult or cost-prohibitive for individual companies to replicate.  One such service is the JPMA Industry Study. JPMA has a long history of offering the JPMA Industry Study, as a key member benefit and industry resource. The JPMA Industry Study is a resource of manufacturer supplied data for U.S. unit volume and dollar sales for over 80 juvenile product categories.


Our industry craves, but lacks affordable reports that provide an overview of sales data. However, this data provides valuable insight that assists manufacturers in the following ways:

  • In presentations to national retailers
  • When analyzing line extensions or business acquisitions
  • Informally for competitive analysis focusing on total market size
  • Capital raising and expanding lines of credit


Over the last 18 months, JPMA has worked with members to identify opportunities to improve the JPMA Industry Study program. This started by creating a member group to help review the program and to identify ways to improve and streamline the data collection process. Driven by member feedback, JPMA created a new questionnaire and solicited feedback from industry members, researched the programs of like-minded associations, reviewed the landscape of sales data that exists within our industry, and released a request for proposal to a number of research companies that specialize in industry data collection, all in an effort to enhance the current program.


In the end JPMA selected and retained Karlamar Associates as JPMA’s third party research partner. Karlamar Associates has extensive knowledge of our industry and understands the needs of our members. “We partnered with Karlamar Associates to create a more streamlined questionnaire that represents the way retailers buy and promote their product selection and the way consumers purchase them,” said Kelly Mariotti, executive director of JPMA. “This is a significant step toward improving the program as we continue to enhance how we support our members’ desire for industry data.”


The survey is set to open in August and is free for JPMA members who participate. Members will receive notification directly from Karlamar Associates which includes unique login details. Your participation is imperative and only by participating can we make this report a cost-effective and robust collection of sales information for the entire juvenile products industry. Privacy and competitive issues have been addressed by JPMA and Karlamar Associates to ensure the confidentiality of data by suppressing any sub-category data where one company owns more than 85%, and each sub-category must have a minimum of three participating companies to avoid suppression.

JPMA is committed to further enhancing our industry data resources. The improved Industry Study is an important step to reaching that goal.
