National Child Vehicular Heat Stroke Campaign

Thursday, July 2, 2020   (0 Comments)
This summer, JPMA will partner with other national organizations that share our dedication to protecting children to raise awareness of child vehicular heatstroke. Hot cars tragically took the lives of 52 children in 2019, yet these deaths are 100% preventable.

To combat these tragedies, this year, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is launching a national awareness campaign, backed by paid media, that will run through September, with the theme Park. Look. Lock. The campaign will remind parents to never leave a child unattended in a car or allow a child to access a car while playing and will provide prevention guidance for parents.

To launch the program, yesterday, July 1, 2020 NHTSA hosted a series of virtual events. Throughout the day, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., a @NHTSAgov Tweet Up encouraged online dialogue with @JPMA and others joining to support. NHTSA also facilitated an Online Media Event followed by a Round Table of safety experts to address the different aspects of this topic as we
head into the peak of summer travel. We are pleased to have had our members represented on this esteemed panel by JPMA director of child passenger safety, Joe Colella.

JPMA members are invited to join this important conversation throughout this campaign. You can learn more about Park. Look. Lock. and access resources that your company can share online and through social media to support parents and caregivers as they balance upended schedules caused by COVID-19 with the usual stresses and wonders of family life.

Throughout the summer you’ll hear from us with additional resources and opportunities to join this incredible effort to prevent deaths from child vehicular heat stroke. You can also find a new
JPMA Hyperthermia/Heatstroke Position Statement posted on our website.

If you have questions, please reach out to Joe directly at jcolella@jpma.org.
