JPMA Response to Booster Seat Testing and Use

Thursday, February 6, 2020   (0 Comments)

Car seats, booster seats and seat belts must meet stringent Federal safety regulations to ensure performance, and selecting and using them is crucial. No side impact testing is currently required for booster seats, but major manufacturers voluntarily test beyond regulatory requirements. Since booster seats help optimize seat belt fit, rather than directly restraining children, performance in crashes is similar to vehicle seat belt testing results.

Car crashes can be devastating, violent events and sadly are a leading cause of injury or death for American children. Proper use of restraint systems is the best defense against injury, regardless of the cause of a crash. Children are always safer when riding in a car seat than without.
