Meet Yusef Kana of Crown Crafts, the 2016 JPMA Scholarship Award Recipient.
When we last checked, Yusef was attending Louisiana State University, majoring in Chemical Engineering. We caught up with Yusef a year into his studies for a quick Q&A:
Q: Tell us about your first year of study at LSU.
A: So far, I have had a splendid experience studying at LSU. My professors have (mostly) been effective teachers, and, because they were easily accessible, I formed a couple of key relations with professors that are high up in the engineering department. Because I am a Chemical Engineering major, the work load has proven to be intense at times, but I was successful when it came to exams and finals last semester and am currently working with a 3.95 GPA. Since I was able to garner a lot of college credit hours during high school, I am ahead of most of my peers in regard to the Chem E flowachart and how many courses I've completed.
Q: What is your ultimate career goal?
A: One of my immediate goals is to obtain an on-campus job where I work in an engineering based lab. This would serve to boost my resume so that I could leave a strong impression on big name companies at the job fair next fall. More importantly, though, I aim to line myself up with an Internship over the summer to substantially spruce my on-hand experience and growth as an individual. As far as long-term career goals, I aim to become a diligent and hard-working chemical engineer (most likely best fit for a manager/supervisor esque position) so that I can provide financial stability for my future family and hopefully leave a positive impact on the world.
