Myth Busters: The JPMA Statistical Study Edition

Each year JPMA coordinates an industry-wide data collection for the JPMA Industry Statistical Study, which establishes meaningful industry research. The JPMA Industry Statistical Study survey is open and awaiting member participation before September 26, 2016. Below JPMA busts some myths about the program so you can feel confident in your participation.
Myth: My sales data will be exposed to other members.
Fact: Individual company data will not be exposed in any way. If after tabulation, it is found that any one company results in owning 85% or more of any one sub-category’s unit or dollar data submitted, then that sub-category will be suppressed and not reported. In addition, each sub-category must have a minimum of three participating companies to avoid suppression.
Myth: The categories are really complex and it’s a real challenge to break down my data into so many sub-categories.
Fact: This year JPMA completed an overhaul to the questionnaire. The questionnaire is now more streamlined and reflective of the way you see product organized on retail shelves and websites.
Myth: Not enough people participate in my category.
Fact: This one has some truth to it for certain categories, but it doesn’t have to be that way. Participation is the vital key to creating a robust industry report. Wayne Gretzky said, “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.” The same can be said of participation in data collection. We won’t know if there isn’t enough participation until the data collection is completed, so complete your questionnaire today.
Our industry craves, but lacks affordable reports that provide an overview of sales data. However, this data provides valuable insight that assists manufacturers. Remember – only those manufacturers that participate will have access to the report! Help us make it a great member benefit resource by participating today.
