August 11, 2016 marked a historic day in NYC. Mayor Bill de Blasio signed a bill requiring lactation rooms in certain public city offices for mothers in honor of Breastfeeding Awareness Month (August). There are currently three lactation rooms in Brooklyn, which have been outfitted with gliders and changing tables by Delta Children (www.deltachildren.com), with more to come as promised by the Mayor from now through July 1, 2017.
President of Delta Children, Joseph Shamie, has given his word to Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams and now Mayor de Blasio to provide the necessary furniture to help them reach their goals. Delta Children was instrumental in opening the first lactation lounge at Brooklyn Borough Hall last year, and provided furniture for the lactation room at Council member Robert Cornegy Jr.’s office, as well. The Council member was responsible for introducing the bill.
"I am proud that Delta Children could be such an integral part of this groundbreaking bill. Medical research shows the health benefits of breastfed children. As a community, we are all helping the next generation of children to become healthier, happier and smarter by offering these facilities," said Shamie
