Stricter regulations and advanced testing technology have brought product safety into the spotlight across many industries, and especially in juvenile products. Compliance and product safety is ever-evolving and requires a comprehensive knowledge and ability to think globally about execution across various components of a business. Recently, Lisa Trofe, CAE, JPMA’s Director of Product Safety & Certification, acquired the Certificate in Product Safety Management, sponsored by Saint Louis University’s John Cook School of Business Center for Supply Chain Management Studies in cooperation with ADK Information Services, LLC. JPMA’s Director of Legislative & Regulatory Affairs, Mark Fellin, also has graduated from this program. JPMA Executive Director Kelly Mariotti, JD, CPA, CAE, holds a Certificate from SLU’s Advanced Product Safety Management Program.
“Participating in this course provided me a wealth of knowledge that will help inform future additions to JPMA's product safety and certification program offerings," said Lisa of her experience with the program. "I look forward to implementing some of these ideas in the short term, while engaging with JPMA members as a resource to support their internal product safety programs.” - Lisa Trofe, CAE.
The SLU Product Safety Management Program, as well as their advanced program, is centered around risk assessment principles, regulatory compliance at the state, national, and international levels, safety program design, and topic-specific elements such as chemicals with a focus on state activities such as California’s Proposition 65 and Washington State’s Safe Children’s Product Act, social advocacy, and interaction with their instruction panel consisting of recognized experts in their fields, as well as regulators from state, national (CPSC) and international levels who participate as instructors in various courses. The programs attract an audience of product safety professionals across industries and includes, attorneys, retailers, compliance officers, and engineers.
The basic program is a combination of online and on-site instruction. The program starts with two-day on-campus workshop at Saint Louis University, followed by a 3 month period of bi-weekly one hour webinars on various product safety topics. The course closes with a two-day workshop back on campus.
