Interim ASTM meetings took place June 14-15, 2016 at ASTM Headquarters in W. Conshohocken, Pennsylvania. Save the date for the next full set of juvenile product meetings the week of September 26, also at ASTM Headquarters.
Gates & Enclosures F1004
Ballots were discussed related to sequence of testing and the slat strength test. Inclusion of ad hoc approved language was agreed to and will be balloted. The subcommittee agreed to watch incident data and not make any changes to the current bounded opening test to evaluate flex. The current ballot on the push out test will be revised based on discussion and re-balloted.
Infant Incline Sleep Products F3118
A new task group was formed to review the scope of the standard against new sleep products in the market, while it was agreed that support pillows and wedges would not fall into the scope. Inclusion of ad hoc warning language was discussed and will continue to be worked on in task group. Several items will be balloted and an interim teleconference will be scheduled in advance of the September meetings.
Changing Tables F2388
A ballot for entrapment test method was approved. A second ballot related to collapse had several persuasive negatives and will be revised and re-balloted. Section 9 of the standard on marking and labeling was reviewed in depth, and additional work in task group will occur before the section is ready for ballot. An interim subcommittee teleconference will likely be scheduled for late Summer.
High Chairs F404
A ballot on rearward stability was approved and will move forward to publication. Updates to Section 9 of the standard on marking and labeling, to include the recommended ad hoc warning language, was presented in part. Additional task group work will ensue and the section will be presented in entirety at the next meeting.
Infant Bouncers F2167
A proposal for inclusion of ad hoc warning language was reviewed and approved for ballot.
Bed Rails F2085
A task group on portable bed rails intended for use on convertible cribs presented a recommendation that no change is needed for the standard, which was agreed to by subcommittee.
Booster Seats F2640
Based on comments and negatives received for ballots on attachment to adult chairs and dimensions of adult chairs, revised proposals were presented to the subcommittee. Minor tweaks made in follow up task group meetings will prepare the new sections for ballot.
