If you weren’t paying attention to social media around Thursday, May 19, then you may not know just how viral Kolcraft’s video, giving adults the ability to truly test ride their Contours Bliss stroller, went.
It caught the attention of publications like Good Housekeeping, Scary Mommy, Ad Week and Architecture and Design, proving that great creative minds can execute an idea that catches the country by storm. “The problem with shopping for strollers is that babies can’t talk to tell you what they like,” the video states. So Kolcraft set out to give parents the chance to ride the stroller themselves, and captured the results on camera.
“We really loved the idea from the start, but never guessed it would trend so well,” said Andy Newmark, Kolcraft’s Senior Vice President of Sales & Marketing. “It was a lot of fun to see it produced, but even more fun seeing the response. We are particularly enthused about the positive reactions we have received from parents.”
Kolcraft is a third-generation family owned and operated baby product manufacturer based in Chicago with facilities throughout the USA and internationally. Kolcraft’s story began in 1946 in Chicago when founder Leo Koltun began making pads for cribs, playards and high chairs for post-World War II babies. During the 1950’s Kolcraft quickly expanded production into crib mattresses and would become the largest crib mattress manufacturer in the USA, a title the company still holds today. In 2005 Kolcraft launched the Contours® brand, which has won numerous consumer awards for its tandem stroller.
In 2016, Kolcraft celebrates its 70th anniversary by helping families through their support of the March of Dimes with the “For the Love of Family Nursery Project”. Kolcraft will design and furnish a nursery for a family experiencing a premature birth who has not had time to create a safe nursery for their newborn.
“At Kolcraft, everything we do, we do for the love of family. This 70 year milestone is not just about my grandfather, my father and the extended family of Kolcraft employees around the world. It’s really about the families we create products for. We put our hearts into making millions of families’ lives easier with high quality, innovative baby products,” said Tom Koltun. “Our partnership with the March of Dimes is also important to us to help fund important research programs to enable more families to have strong, happy babies.”
Kolcraft has been a part of the JPMA story for many years. They are one of a handful of the earliest member companies that is still operating today. Kolcraft is an active participant in the JPMA Certification Program, and Andy Newmark is currently serving as JPMA’s Chairman of the Board, a position of which he also held in 2002. “We are thrilled with the success that Kolcraft experienced last week and throughout the last 70 years,” said Kelly Mariotti, JPMA Executive Director. “Their adult sized stroller is a testament that innovation exists not only in the products our industry produces, but also in the ways we present them to the parenting world.”
