In 2015, Nationwide Insurance assembled leading experts in child safety to form its “Make Safe Happen” advisory council. JPMA is a member of that council, alongside other organizations such as the American Academy of Pediatrics, Safe Kids Worldwide, The Ad Council and the American Red Cross, to name a few.
From the numerous discussions and input from the advisory council, the program will focus on four key areas in 2016: TV and furniture tip-overs, cleaner and medicine poisoning, drowning prevention and home fires. An all-encompassing education and information program will provide information that will increase the smart safety choices parents, caregivers and even children make. Safety and sharing meaningful information and expertise with consumers is our top priority.
JPMA will lend its voice to this important initiative and conversation through a variety of information-sharing opportunities. Utilizing the strength of JPMA and its, membership we hope that you will support the program by sharing with your unique audiences the information that will be communicated via a number of JPMA’s social media channels such as Facebook and Twitter.
On Feb. 10, JPMA began promoting safety messaging to prevent TV and furniture tip-overs. The key messages associated with the program include:
- Anchor furniture to the wall
- Mount flat screens to the wall
- Put heavier items on bottom shelves
- Install drawer stops
- Don’t put toys or other child articles on high shelves
This is an opportunity for JPMA and its members to advance its leadership role and provide information on product safety to parents and caregivers on how to make safe happen.
