JPMA Statement Regarding the California Department of Toxic Substances Control Announcement
Friday, March 14, 2014
The Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association, an association dedicated to promoting the safety of juvenile products, has issued the following statement about the California Department of Toxic Substances Control’s (DTSC) announcement regarding the Safer Consumer Products regulations.
The Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association (JPMA) supports regulation that improves the safety of juvenile products and encourages our members to explore the use of innovation, emerging technologies and natural choices when available and applicable to reduce unnecessary exposure to chemicals. With the passage of performance and labeling requirements under the new flammability standard Technical Bulletin 117-2013 (TB 117-2013), many manufacturers have already started eliminating the use of flame retardant chemicals such as TCEP and TDCPP from products. We expect our member manufacturers will be fully compliant in order to advance the safety of juvenile products.
Kelly Mariotti, executive director of JPMA, stated, “Safety is the number one priority of JPMA and its member manufacturers. We look forward to working with the Department of Toxic Substances Control as we work together to ensure parents and caregivers provide children with the safest possible products.”
It is important to JPMA and its members that juvenile products continue to meet the highest safety standards. Together, JPMA and its member companies have a proud history of working with legislators and regulators in advancing and ensuring juvenile product safety.
