JPMA Welcomes Tenebaum To 2010 Summit

JPMA Welcomes CPSC Chairman Inez Tenenbaum to Juvenile Products Industry Summit
JPMA Annual Summit brings together industry and government regulators to advance the points outlined in the CPSIA.
WASHINGTON D.C. – March 9, 2010 The Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association (JPMA) invited the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) Chairman Inez Tenenbaum to present the keynote address to leading juvenile products manufacturers today in Washington, D.C.
“JPMA is fully committed to supporting Tenenbaum’s safety initiatives as it parallels our goals of achieving the safest environment for our children,” said Michael Dwyer, CAE Executive Director of the Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association. “Today’s keynote addressed several key priorities for the Chairman, and JPMA is working with our members to develop new tools and industry initiatives to keep all stakeholders, but especially the public, informed on how to ensure that safety remains the main priority for our industry.”
For over 30 years, JPMA has initiated efforts to enhance children’s product safety beginning with the development of a certification program for high chairs in 1976. In 2007, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recognized the efforts of JPMA and ASTM when they cited an 84% and 89% reduction in fatalities and injuries due to the establishment and effectiveness of ASTM Standards for baby walkers and cribs, respectively.
The industry is at the forefront of infant safety and will continue to evaluate programs to enhance and communicate safety initiatives. In terms of regulations being promulgated by the CPSC, as has always been the case, the juvenile products industry stands ready to continue to provide technical support and manpower resources to expedite new safety standards.
“JPMA would like to thank the Chairman for speaking at today’s Summit of industry leaders,” continued Dwyer. “We value the relationship we have with the CPSC and hope that in cooperation we can accelerate our mutual goals.”
JPMA is fully committed to the safest environments for our children and dedicates each September to Baby Safety Month. This year, Baby Safety Month is dedicated to safe sleep practices. JPMA recently redesigned its Web site to include a special section for parents to readily access safety information called “The ParentHood”. Parents and caregivers are invited to join this online community to find answers to frequently asked questions, a room-by-room safety guide and a free monthly e-mail with safety tips.
Creating a safe environment for baby is the best way parents can ensure that the first years are happy and healthy. JPMA and its members are committed to helping parents and caregivers achieve this ultimate goal.
