Brenda Berg has been elected as the JPMA Chair for 2010 and 2011. As Chair, Brenda is the voice of the association representing the membership through strategic initiatives, programs and related organization activities. Q: Who is the JPMA Chair?
A: Brenda Berg – Founder and CEO of Scandinavian Child.
Q: What is Brenda’s JPMA Background?
A: Brenda has been involved with JPMA in a number of capacities since 2002. She has served on the board of directors since 2006, has volunteered on many task groups, and is a voting member of two ASTM committees. Brenda is a passionate children’s product safety advocate and has played an integral role in promoting the safety and marketing efforts of JPMA.
Q: What is Brenda’s professional background?
A: A graduate of Georgetown University, Brenda has a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and a Masters in Public Policy. Prior to founding Scandinavian Child, Brenda was the co-founder of TransTech Management, Inc., a boutique management consulting firm primarily focused on executive consulting for the transportation industry. She also has worked for the U.S. Senate Labor and Human Resources Committee and as a consultant to the U.S. Department of Education.
Q: How did Brenda get involved with the JP industry?
A: After spending several years as a management consultant, Brenda knew she wanted to find a job that allowed her more time at home and less time traveling spontaneously to meet customer needs. Seeing the Svan High Chair in Sweden inspired Brenda to make a change -- and Scandinvian Child was born.
Q: What is Brenda like behind the JPMA and Scandinavian Child titles?
A: Brenda is a go-getter, but first and foremost she is a mom of two young children (Kelly, 8 and Anton, 5). Brenda is also very involved with her local schools. Her concerns and experience in Education Policy compelled her to be a Founder and Executive Committee member of the Great Schools in Wake Coalition.
Q: The one thing everyone should know about Brenda.
A: Brenda is a small business owner who is passionate about what she does and what she offers to parents. A little known fact that she likes to share with parents – most products are not regulated by mandatory standards, so look for the JPMA Certification seal.
Q: What are Brenda’s hopes for JPMA for the coming year?
A: Brenda’s company philosophy is “designs without compromise” and she takes that to heart in every business decision she makes. “I plan to use this same philosophy when it comes to leading JPMA in the coming year … only for JPMA, it is a matter of ‘confidence without compromise’. We need to always strive to have the confidence of our membership, confidence of our industry partners and customers and, most important, the confidence of parents.”
