Dave Taylor has been elected as your new JPMA Chairman for 2012. As Chairman, Dave is the voice of the association representing the membership through strategic initiatives, programs and related organization activities. Please join JPMA in welcoming Dave in his new role. Please take a moment to read the following Q & A and get to know your new JPMA Chairman.
Q: Who is your new JPMA Chairman?
A: Dave Taylor – President and CEO of Dorel Juvenile Group (DJG)
Q: What is Dave’s JPMA Background?
A: Dave has been involved with the JPMA Board since 2009. Dave most recently served as Vice Chairman, but has contributed on a variety of task groups and committees throughout the years.
Q: What is Dave’s professional background?
A: Dave began his career as a CPA at Price Waterhouse in Indianapolis and Frankfurt, Germany, spending more than a decade in the Audit department and working with companies such as Walt Disney, Tupperware, Hillenbrand and Ball Corporation. After an Ex-Pat assignment in Hong Kong with Ball Corporation, Dave returned to the Indianapolis area and ultimately joined DJG in 2003 as Chief Financial Officer.
Q: How did Dave get involved with the JP industry?
A: After initially joining DJG as CFO, Dave was elevated to the position of President and CEO in 2006. Shortly thereafter, he began working with Bob Waller, JPMA President and Mike Dwyer, JPMA Executive Director to develop a plan for DJG to become more actively involved in JPMA and for Dave to join the Board.
Q: What is Dave like behind the JPMA and Dorel titles?
A: Dave is a family man, married for more than 25 years. He and his wife have three teenagers. Dave has lived and worked both in Europe and Hong Kong. He is very committed to giving back to the community through philanthropic organizations. One organization very close to his heart is Make-A-Wish, where he is a board member of the local chapter of the organization. Dave encourages employees to volunteer to charitable organizations that are meaningful to the employee.
Q: The one thing everyone should know about Dave.
A: If there is a trophy involved, look out, he is in it to win it! He has a very competitive nature coming from his days of playing baseball through college and coaching youth travel baseball. Dave encourages friendly DJG employee competition which has been very successful in building camaraderie throughout the company.
Q: What are Dave’s hopes for JPMA for the coming year?
A: Dave’s recent acceptance speech in Washington DC focused on continuing JPMA’s strategy to reach out to the industry stakeholders and government agencies in the spirit of creating a unified approach/voice in furthering the overarching mission of “enhancing children’s product safety”. Using the historic event of the JPMA and ABC unification agreements signed during the recent Washington DC Annual Summit as a solid platform, the industry is now uniquelypositioned to execute its strategic objectives with a clear vision and solid funding.
