Industry Leaders Gather at JPMA Summit for the Good of Our Nation's Children

JPMA hosted a regulatory summit recently in Washington, D.C. to provide members and other industry participants with a comprehensive review of regulatory and legislative issues affecting the industry.

Highlights of the Summit, Where Do We Go From Here? Understanding the Implementation of the CPSIA included a keynote address from Consumer Products Safety Commission Chairman Inez Tenenbaum. In her address, Tenenbaum focused on the growing partnership of the CPSC, JPMA and its members “to commit all of our energy and all of our expertise to the safety of children.”

“JPMA is taking its advocacy efforts for practical and reasonable regulations to new levels,” remarked newly elected JPMA Chair, Brenda Berg of Scandinavian Child. “I am confident we can work together to meet the ever-increasing demands on our industry in the coming year. The 2010 Summit and the members who participated prove the commitment to JPMA and demonstrate the power of leadership in our industry.”

Additional highlights included presentations on going green; saving your brand; what to do when a recall hits; an update and overview from the CPSC compliance division; and MAP pricing.

The summit concluded with a visit to Capitol Hill where attendees had a chance to meet their Congressional representatives and discuss how the CPSIA and the continuing climate of intense product safety scrutiny is affecting the livelihood of the juvenile products industry.

Silvio Gisondi of Dorel Juvenile Group had this to say, “There were some interesting speakers at the 2010 JPMA Summit and it was very informative. I particularly appreciated that we got to hear from different sides of the spectrum; such as. Consumers Union, RILA and CPSC.”
